Evelyn Peterman, age 33, blood witch and senior clerk at the Ministry of Social Welfare's Hall of Records, has a secret. By day she's a mild-mannered functionary in charge of registering marriages, deaths, and medical exemptions, while by night she's the underworld Queen of black market document forgeries all of Fides relies upon to evade the draconian Marriage and Procreation Act. 

With her own forged exemptions expiring and her boss monitoring her a little too closely, she turns to the demonic matchmakers who guarantee a 100% perfect match for her mandated marriage. All she'll need to do is give up a piece of her magic and soul--a small price to pay for continuing her clandestine work on behalf of Fides citizens trapped beneath the Marriage and Procreation Act. 

Imagine her surprise when she's matched with the cynical, sneering, lost heir to the infamous Rookwood family, currently serving as the lowly demon administrator in charge of her matching. Now, Evelyn and Blaise must marry to recover his soul and mage powers, upend the Marriage and Procreation Act that holds all of Fides hostage and generate a cover for their revolutionary efforts to unseat the vampiric court that rules through blood and stolen magic.
